Morning Cocktail

Morning Cocktail

No, no, don’t be silly, I’m not suggesting you give up your cup of coffee or tea. The only reason I drag myself out of bed is for my standing appointment with Earl Grey. But some days, perhaps like a Monday, you need a little extra boost and this “cocktail” is it. Hydration, detox, energy, and a big dose of potassium, all delivered in a way that allows you to indulge your inner Auntie Mame by playing mixologist first thing in the morning. A glass of this Elderflower delight with a nice caffeine chaser or two and you’ll be right as rain. Especially if you indulged your inner Auntie Mame in a more literal sense a bit too much over the weekend. (We won’t tell.)

Color/Cocktail ~ Manhattan

Sometimes a simple classic is best, in this case a Manhattan and a lovely shade of red. To prepare a Manhattan pour 2 oz. blended whiskey, 1 oz. Italian sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into an ice filled mixing glass. Stir, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry. Enjoy!

Applejack Rabbit

At the suggestion of a couple of friends  we are moving the weekly cocktail feature to Thursdays, to give everyone a chance to scour for ingredients before the weekend. After all, no one wants to battle Friday rush hour traffic in search of Creme de Violette. Or so I am told.

This week we are celebrating fall with the Applejack Rabbit. Featured in the December 1965 issue of Gourmet its mixture of apple brandy and maple syrup is sure to taste like autumn in a cocktail glass!

Applejack Rabbit

2 oz. apple brandy
Juice of one half lemon
1 tbsp. maple syrup

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half filled with cracked ice. Shake vigorously. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass.
