Lovely Liv

I love this photo of Liv Tyler for Proenza Schouler so much I’d like to frame it! Not only is she beautiful, but looking at it just makes me feel so peaceful and happy, like taking a deep breath of fresh morning air. I wish there was a spot where I could go early in the morning and just close my eyes and breathe for a bit like this, I think that would be such a lovely start to the day.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

I have had these gorgeous photos saved for so long (I think we have all seen the tulle skirt photo many times, yes?), and each time I look at them I covet that little round bag.  It has such a lovely vintage style I am convinced holiday travel would be more bearable if I were packing all of my small items in a bag like that ( I even have a scruffy little dog to carry, it was meant to be). Not to mention I would feel very Betty Draper. But each time I also think, where have I seen this bag before? Well, friends, while looking for something completely unrelated I realized where I have seen it.  I own it! Mine is black, given to me about four Christmases ago by my very stylish mother. I am now officially ridiculous. Please tell me you have done something like this before so that I will feel a bit better, won’t you?

P.S. If anyone would like to find the bag, it is a Samsonite from the 2006 Black Label Vintage Collection. I know this because the tags were still attached, such is my insanity.

Victory Day

In Boston today is John Fitzgerald Kennedy Victory Day, celebrating the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s election in 1960, so I had to share some of my favorite photos. These are by the fantastic Richard Avedon, from the January 3, 1961 session, the results of which were published in Look Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar.  Aren’t they breathtaking? I was lucky enough to see Avedon’s contact sheets from this shoot at the Peabody Essex Museum recently, and I must admit I could have spent hours examining each little image, wondering why Avedon chose the images he did and discarded the others.  Some of the photos that didn’t make the cut actually ended up being my favorites.  Do you have a favorite photo of JFK and/or Jackie?

River Engagement

I am working very hard to keep my love for Jose Villa’s photography in check, and not fill this entire blog with his fantastic images. But I just could not resist sharing this river engagement session with you all. How insanely gorgeous and romantic are these photos? This couple should be in movies, and I adore their style. They had me at wellies and suspenders. See the whole shoot here.
