A Merry Little Playlist

Is there anything better than a roaring fireplace, a spiced cider in hand, and holiday music filling the air? I think not. Here are my top 25 holiday tunes, some make me cry, some make me dance, and some make me sing with entirely too many decibels and crazed enthusiasm! I’ll let you decide which cause what reaction.

P.S. If you only check out one song on this list make it the Kay Starr remix of Everybody’s Waiting For The Man With The Bag, you won’t be disappointed!

Spooky Swing

I’m usually stumped as to what to play during the Halloween season. The choices are at best overplayed and at worst downright tacky. And those haunted house soundtracks people play with the blood curdling screaming and such? Horrifying, no thank you, I drop my cocktail just thinking about it. This year I am finally prepared with a jazzy little playlist worthy of a swanky All Hallows Eve cocktail party! No screaming, no cocktail dropping, no Monster Mash.

Go Baroque

Are you feeling a little unfocused? Have a case of the Wednesday-s? Put on some Baroque music! Researchers at the University of Maryland and University of Pennsylvania have found that listening to baroque music while they worked improved radiologists mood, concentration and work satisfaction. Music from this period, especially pieces set to 60 beats per minute, also improve information retention and increase the speed of learning new skills. Check out this list of Baroque composers for an idea of what to look for.  Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Bach, and  Handel, are popular and foolproof choices. I’m giving it a try while I study for an upcoming exam, anyone care to join me? Let us know if you notice an improvement!
