Spring Beauty

It is, at long last, officially spring! Of course it is also raining, but somehow official spring rain makes me think more of flowers and refreshment than freezing and flooding. Let’s hope that is how it turns out this time.

All this week I will be posting about transitioning into spring.  I thought it might be nice to start with makeup since , for most of us, it is the only thing we can really change as early as March.  My wardrobe won’t be changing much until the temps get a bit higher but at least I can sport a new gloss and pretty manicure with my winter coat!

There are many spring beauty trends out there but I like to keep it pretty simple so I usually pick one theme and go with it all season.  This year I’m drawn to all things lilac and lavender.  My favorite thing about spring is the ability to lighten up.  Everything in nature is fresh and new and that is how I like a spring beauty look to be as well, a bare face with a couple of pretty accents. Here are the 5 items I’ve added to my makeup bag:

A bare face requires a groomed brow, I recommend Diorshow Brow Styler in Universal Brown. It is a very flattering, versatile shade that matches many different hair colors.

Lighten up your mascara by going for length instead of thickness. CoverGirl’s Lash Blast Length mascara is my current favorite. No flakes, no smudges, no removal problems, just beautiful long lashes.

If you like a colored lid add a wash of light lavender shadow for a pretty spring eye. Try CoverGirl’s Eye Enhancers in Dance Party (the middle shade), and remember to blend, blend, blend.

For a spring lip I like to keep it very simple with a tinted lip balm.  Lipstick seems like too much, and gloss just doesn’t work in seacoast winds.  J. R. Watkins in Strike-a-rose is everything that I hope a tinted lip balm will be.  Moisturizing, pigmented, and glossy without a trace of stickiness.

Finally, don’t forget that as the weather gets warmer skin tends to shine so arm yourself with some well made blotting papers.  Sonia Kashuk’s papers are substantial in thickness, larger than most other paper brands, and of course affordable.

CoverGirl, J.R. Watkins, and Sonia Kashuk items available at Target. Dior item available at Sephora.
