Paint Panic

So I just received an email from the husband asking whether I would like to change the color of our house exterior because the painter needs to know by Monday! (Insert panic, hand wringing, dizziness, and an emergency trip to the Home Depot paint chip area here) We’ve been waiting to paint forever and getting pushed back in the schedule due to rain and other delays, and therefore hadn’t even given it proper thought until, well, about ten minutes ago! I’ve been dreaming of painting the house for ages, but now faced with a two day window suddenly I cannot think of any colors whatsoever. I need your help dear friends (really, otherwise I may pull out my 120 piece set of Prismacolor pencils for inspiration)!

If you could paint the exterior of your home any color, what would it be? And if, just as an example, your home had a white entry way, white window frames, and a black door, and was in a historic district what color would you choose? (haha, heeeeeeelp!)

Update: Thank you SO much for all of your thoughtful suggestions! There were a lot of votes for grays and blues, (and when my sweet friends speak, I listen) so after many, many paint chips we have chosen a grayish-blue (or perhaps it is a blueish-gray), Benjamin Moore November Skies!  I am so excited for the work to begin, I think our house is going to look much more chic after the makeover, and I will definitely post photos.

Gutter Fabulous

decorative rain gutter

I had to share this little gem with all of you. How beautiful is the gutter, or I suppose more appropriately called the down spout, on this house? It is a bit hard to see but it is a series of little metal cups that carry the water down from the roof by overflowing into one another. There was one on each side so that if you were looking from the front it honestly looked like the house was wearing a pair of long earrings. It was gorgeous and much more stylish than the white metal tubes one usually sees. I noticed it on our walk through town a couple of weekends ago.  I have never seen anything like this before, but of course now I really want a couple for our house!
