Give Thanks

My favorite week of the year is upon us, Thanksgiving week! We’ll be getting in the spirit of the holiday by listing some things, big and small, that I’m thankful for.

Today, it’s that November kicks off beard season! What can I say, a man with scruff will not be thrown out of bed for drinking scotch around here. And just in case you have a gent in your life (or are said gent) who is nervous about the ins an outs of beard ownership, GQ has a handy guide to all things scruffy.

Words To Live By

I overheard someone this weekend saying (and I think maybe I’ve seen it online somewhere as well?) ” if he is nice to you, but he isn’t nice to the waiter…then he isn’t a nice person“.  I love that, and I think this quote is a perfect match to that idea. Here’s hoping that every year we are superior to who we were the year before!

J.Crew Stop It Right Now

As usual the lovely people at J.Crew are making me fall in love with everything in the fall/winter collection. They insist on pushing all of my  hot secretary / menswear / sequin / plaid  buttons, so really, my wallet has no hope.

Bookworm

What can I say, you can take the girl out of psych class but you can’t get psych degrees out of the girl. A little list of books I have my eye on, never enough information about the brain for my liking. Love 2.o is top of my list, though I’m a bit biased since Dr. Fredrickson was a professor at Michigan while I was in the department, and for all of us who pause the screen after Chuck Lorre’s TV shows to read his hilarious vanity cards, now they are all available in a no squinting required collection in What Doesn’t Kill Us Makes Us Bitter.

If the human mind is a bit heavy for this time of year never fear, the holiday reading list is coming up soon!

Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks  |  Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks  |  The Wisdom of Psychopaths by Kevin Dutton  |  Love 2.0 by Barbara Fredrickson   |  Missing Out by Adam Phillips  |  The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson |  Mastermind by Maria Konnikova |  What Doesn’t Kill Us Makes Us Bitter by Chuck Lorre

Words To Live By

This might be my favorite quote of all time. So true. Have a great week everyone!

”Don’t listen to anyone. Trust what gives you pleasure. Trust the emotions. If you love something but can’t explain why, that’s enough.“
