A new selection of titles for the night stand…

Advanced Style by Ari Seth Cohen – we’ve all loved the blog and now we can enjoy it even more in book form. I think this will be my go-to graduation gift from now on, a great reminder that neither life nor style ends in ones mid twenties.

The Paris Wife by Paula Mclain -Ernest Hemingway and Hadley Richardson, and the rest of the “Lost Generation”, in 1920′s Paris. Need I say more?

The Queen by Robert Lacey – I will never grow tired of reading Queen Elizabeth’s biographies. Especially since every new tidbit I find out about her is more endearing than the last. I may be entertaining the idea of naming a future daughter Lilibet, the Queen’s childhood nickname.

Spring Hiatus

Every time I find my favorite show isn’t airing a new episode I spout a sarcastic comment (or twelve) about how it must be nice to be a television actor and be on hiatus every three episodes (humph!) . Don’t we all wish we could just take a break like that? And then one day about three weeks ago I decided to give it a go. We celebrated our anniversary, planned a few trips, finally finished the scarf I’ve been working on for years (yes, years), celebrated the royal wedding anniversary ( I knew I’d saved it on DVR all this time for a reason), and just generally stopped to smell the roses.

It was also an exercise in ups and downs. The first week felt delightfully devious, like I was getting away with playing hooky. The second week I was in a panic that I was missing everything. By the third week I was rested, and ready to get back in the game. Of course now I have to cut down on the sarcasm and admit that a hiatus does a body good. Perhaps not every three episodes, but a spring hiatus might become a yearly occurrence around here.
