Three Strands, Three Ways

J.Crew Pearl Necklace (similar) // Sheer Stripe T c/o StyleMint

With all of those jolly packages to carry, and baggage restrictions to worry about it is easy to forget our arsenal of baubles as we head home for the holidays. As much as I love to have a million sparkly options, all you really need is one multi-strand pearl necklace to be set for all the festivities!

And speaking of versatile items to have on hand, I have hardly taken off the StyleMint T you see me wearing above since receiving it a couple months ago. The sheer stripes make it perfect for a sexy date night, and layered with a camisole it goes from brunch to errands to dinner. I’ve been dressing it up with jewels and down with sneakers and topknots for weeks, it never looks out of place. Now that it is freezing I’m looking forward to StyleMint’s limited edition cashmere sweater collection, sounds heavenly!

All you need is a length of ribbon (of course, my top choice is tartan, but I am bringing a few lengths of polka dots as well!) to take your necklace from classic  (1) to playful (2) to opera length (3).

To convert to the playful ribbon tied effect simply decide where you would like the pearls to lay on your outfit, measure from the clasp to the nape of your neck, double that length and add about six inches for the bow (depending on the width of your ribbon). With the ribbon folded in half slip the loop through the clasp and guide the ribbon through the loop. Repeat on the other side, tie it on and head out!

When you need a longer necklace, with the clasps open, slip one strand over your head and let the remainder hang below (with my necklace I use the strand with the smallest pearls as the top, depending on your design I suggest using the skinniest strand or the shortest). You will need to cover the clasps which will now be visible at the half way point. Simply tie a bow around each clasp, adjust the size of the loops and trim the ends. For a glitzier effect borrow a couple brooches from your grandma and clip them on the clasps instead, glamour in an instant!

A Conspiracy of Love

A Thousand Words

ONE  //  TWO  //  THREE

Bah Humbug Blemish

Have you ever noticed that when you have nowhere to go, nothing to do, and no one to see, your skin is flawless, yet the night before a party almost guarantees a giant blemish right in the center of your face? Yeah, me too. When this happens even the most carefree girl considers drowning her sorrows in a cocktail and immediately begins piling on the concealer. There is something else you can try. This little trick is a home approximation of a cortizone shot you would get at the dermatologist*, and will at the very least decrease the size and redness of your blemish overnight, and often eradicate it completely! Place a tiny (tiny!) dab of cortizone cream (I use Cortizone-10 1%) directly on the blemish, cover with a pretty little bandaid, and snooze away. In the morning just carry on with your usual routine and enjoy that fabulous party!

* While this doesn’t have the amazing results that a visit to the dermatologist will, it should still be used with great care. Only do this on large blemishes and only for special occasions!  This is definitely not a treatment for every day, and never apply cortizone cream on large areas of your face or body, you run the risk of thinning and damaging your skin, not to mention getting a very long lecture from your dermatologist. Speaking of which, I am not a doctor, this is not to be used as medical advice, and you should always check with your own physician before trying a new beauty treatment of any kind.
