Pleated Fantasy

Every time I see a new selection of gowns pop up in the J.Crew Wedding collection  I curse. Out of sheer jealousy. I can say with complete certainty that if so many options were available when I was choosing a gown I would have said my vows in a J.Crew creation. (Perhaps the lovely Margeaux or  Tiernan) Especially since that would have meant skipping the bridal shop process, which at least for me, was annoying at best.

Now, with the introduction of BHLDN, I am just completely wracked with envy over the Pleated Fantasy gown. I can’t even put into words how smitten I am with it, except to say that if I had the opportunity to wear this gown at my own wedding I would have twirled and swished about in delight all night long. And then slept in it. And then possibly worn it for the entire duration of my honeymoon. I mean, it would be tragic to own this beauty and then wear it only once, am I right?

All You Need Is Love

I must admit, even though husband and I had a fairly large traditional wedding, I daydreamed of eloping. There is something incredibly romantic about forgoing all of the extras, grabbing your love by the hand and running off to get married on a random weekday! Every once in a while during our planning months, and especially on the stressful days, I would close my eyes and picture us in the snow on Boston Common, a fantastic white coat in place of a wedding gown, quietly reciting our vows as the city went on about its day. If these incredibly stylish couples are any indication, it would have been just as beautiful as I’d imagined! Did any of you lovely ladies elope (or wish you could have) ? Anyone planning to do so?

Truly a Classic

As I always do, I am loving the new Spring 2011 ad campaign for Tiffany & Co.! They always hit such a beautiful, extremely romantic note with the simplest of images. I think that ability and aesthetic is part of what has made them such a staple in bridal jewelry. As much as I fall in love with different styles of engagement rings and wedding bands, from the incredibly delicate to bold and unusual to downright quirky, the traditional Tiffany setting paired with a sparkling eternity band always pulls at my heart. That is the definition of a true classic, a piece that remains beautiful and current no matter how much our tastes, or the times, change. Be sure to check out the rest of the photos and watch the very sweet  True Love Grows video here. I know I’m a sap, but I dare you not to get a little misty-eyed while you watch.

Man Gear: How to Buy a Tux

I firmly believe that every gentleman should own a tuxedo. It is an investment, sure, but when you take into account the number of times one needs to rent a tux for weddings and black tie events in the long run it is actually the cheaper option. Not to mention the option that spares you the pleasure of hanging around the tuxedo rental shop with a bunch of high school seniors whose predecessors may or may not have puked in that tux you are about to get married in. Yeah, not a pleasant thought, is it?

If the thought of shopping for a tuxedo leaves you dizzy, don’t worry,  GQ Magazine has you covered! Pop over to their How to Buy a Tux guide, and in a matter of minutes (plus a quick shopping trip of course) you will have the James Bond-like ability to show up to a swanky affair on a moments notice. And, as their masterful stylists point out, always remember: “Opting for a classic doesn’t make you a square; it makes you a gentleman.”  I couldn’t have said it better myself!
