So I just received an email from the husband asking whether I would like to change the color of our house exterior because the painter needs to know by Monday! (Insert panic, hand wringing, dizziness, and an emergency trip to the Home Depot paint chip area here) We’ve been waiting to paint forever and getting pushed back in the schedule due to rain and other delays, and therefore hadn’t even given it proper thought until, well, about ten minutes ago! I’ve been dreaming of painting the house for ages, but now faced with a two day window suddenly I cannot think of any colors whatsoever. I need your help dear friends (really, otherwise I may pull out my 120 piece set of Prismacolor pencils for inspiration)!
If you could paint the exterior of your home any color, what would it be? And if, just as an example, your home had a white entry way, white window frames, and a black door, and was in a historic district what color would you choose? (haha, heeeeeeelp!)
Update: Thank you SO much for all of your thoughtful suggestions! There were a lot of votes for grays and blues, (and when my sweet friends speak, I listen) so after many, many paint chips we have chosen a grayish-blue (or perhaps it is a blueish-gray), Benjamin Moore November Skies! I am so excited for the work to begin, I think our house is going to look much more chic after the makeover, and I will definitely post photos.

I have to admit, I usually walk right past Talbots without even glancing in, but I stumbled upon their Holiday 2010 Look Book online and I am quite smitten with several of the outfits. Very ladylike and yet still youthful and fun! Someone with long legs absolutely must rock the gray shorts outfit this season, and I’m thinking the pink rosette skirt paired with a black top and some tough girl jewels would be perfect for upcoming cocktail parties. It goes without saying that all the jewelry is going straight onto the list, not to mention the gold heels. Talbots, I think you have a new customer.
Have you been surprised by retailers you don’t usually frequent? Any treasures in unusual places?

Our final Halloween cocktail is the Frisky Witch! It could not be easier to make, and it will definitely please any licorice fans at your party. Note that Sambuca comes in clear and black (or deep blue) varieties, either is fine but you do get extra spooky credit for using the black!
Frisky Witch
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Sambuca
Pour into ice-filled old-fashioned glass and stir. Garnish with a black licorice stick.
Enjoy!

I’ve been a huge fan of Grace Coddington ever since seeing The September Issue, so it is no surprise that I adore this photo shoot! Styled by Grace and captured by Patrick Demarchelier, it has a very charming 1930′s feeling. Stripes, polka dots, red lips, and cute pups galore, don’t you wish you could live inside these images? I suddenly want to have a garden party and wear an armful of bangles. I might even be willing to give badminton another chance if I got to do so in a gorgeous silk dress! Do you ever dream of living in a different era? What decade would you choose?

I am completely in love with the Age of Beauty ring and earrings by the amazing ladies of Erickson Beamon. That sparkly bow brings such a huge smile to my face, isn’t it glamorous? Charm & Chain describe them as “edgy and sweet simultaneously“. I couldn’t have said it better myself, and that is a combination I can never resist!
